Biomorphism, and humor, are alive and well within me/without me. Dig it!
I am home. Home is where the heart is. My heart is in my art. This drawing, my recent paintings, are me. I am a fish in the water of my birth. Like a Salmon, I have come home to procreate.
I am becoming the artist I am meant to me. This drawing does a lot of that. If I get it you get it, which is my big hope. Read my recently published "Artist Statement" to understand better: Mehrbach Artist Statement.
It is my time to become my personal Ontology. Ontology is the branch of metaphysics dealing with the nature of being. It is a set of concepts in a subject area that shows their properties and the relations between them. The subject area is me becoming my visual images. My art, my drawings and paintings, are destined to exhibit the nature of my being by visually connecting the properties of myself and the properties of my images. If successful, the properties of myself, and those of my images, will be the same.
Ontology is the branch of philosophy that studies concepts such as existence, being, becoming, and reality. It includes the questions of how entities are grouped into basic categories and which of these entities exist on the most fundamental level. Ontology is sometimes referred to as the science of being and belongs to the major branch of philosophy known as metaphysics.
Ontologists often try to determine what the categories or highest kinds are and how they form a system of categories that provides an encompassing classification of all entities. Commonly proposed categories include substances, properties, relations, states of affairs and events. These categories are characterized by fundamental ontological concepts, like particularity and universality, abstractness and concreteness, or possibility and necessity. Of special interest is the concept of ontological dependence, which determines whether the entities of a category exist on the most fundamental level. Disagreements within ontology are often about whether entities belonging to a certain category exist and, if so, how they are related to other entities.
ºWhen used as a countable noun, the terms "ontology" and "ontologies" refer not to the science of being but to theories within the science of being. Ontological theories can be divided into various types according to their theoretical commitments. Monocategorical ontologies hold that there is only one basic category, which is rejected by polycategorical ontologies. Hierarchical ontologies assert that some entities exist on a more fundamental level and that other entities depend on them. Flat ontologies, on the other hand, deny such a privileged status to any entity.
Parmenides was among the first to propose an ontological characterization of the fundamental nature of reality.
I am continually surprised. Paintings do make sense when their sustenance is nurtured through repeated visits. Active alterations do move in the right direction. Proper journeys are not errorless, they contain misdirections, but sticking to it sorts out the path. I am beginning to believe "Crevice" makes sense. This painting does obtain authentic self-expression.
Names change, I change, my artwork changes. It is all the same. I, me, mine! The painting, prior title "Arena", has become "Camouflage". Yesterday's drawing is more complex than some of may recent drawings. I am testing limits. Dense black light to forms in sunny light, in the painting, Camouflage". In the drawing I inquire about holding viewer attention despite many complex forms; forms are held together by rhythm, negative space, and spatial play. At this moment, I believe I have the wherewithal to make these questions become answers.
This drawing makes sense to me... took me two days to make.
