In yesterday's blog post I wrote that when one follows one's path there is no possibility of prediction. Yesterday's work disclosed itself without a plan! I was an observer. I enjoyed watching. There is merit in the unexpected, the spontaneous, the impromptu.
BTW: Adequately reproducing yesterday's drawing was impossible. It is discouraging when this happens. While being photographed yesterday's drawing may not have been evenly lit. In any case, the stark value contrast, from the extremely dark tree to the subtle, light grey values of the man's cheek, are not reproduced well. Some of the strength of the drawing is lost. An additional example of this reproduction failure is the "beam" coming from the man's right eye — in reality it is not solid and dark, but a staccato of lights, darks, and grays.
