Making art is a special place to be: very selfish, self-contained, and outside of the hub-bub of the everyday world of worry. There's no wars, no money problems, no distracting people, but there is everything one knows, including the confusion and turmoil of earthly concerns. All of one's knowing, and all of one's experience, is present. Unfortunately, all of this make one feel very busy and harried. There is so much to handle. An artist is a one man business. In one day I deal with everything from advertising, to finances, to material preparation, to supplies, to organization of the studio, to business and personal relationships, to making art. There are days when I race from one activity to another. It is an unusual and precious day when art-making is all there is. Yesterday's two drawing were made among the flurry. These drawings have immediacy, and the presence of a heartbeat. That is the way yesterday felt. The bonus is these drawings. When my emotions are driven by immediacy the work reflects it. I love the urgent quality of these drawings.
