Drawings from 09/30/2015, both pencil on paper, 20X16 inches
Today I watched Orson Welles' masterpiece, Citizen Kane ― for the fifth time! There are zigs, zags, and triangles. There is play of light versus dark: forms burst out of darkness into light, or forms are shadowed mysteriously in contrast to other forms that are seen in full light. Scenes flow from those that are atmospheric to those that are crystal clear and stark. All of this is akin to the games I play, but I ain't making movies. I don't want to tell stories. But I do want to animate, to engage myself, and the viewer, with all the elements I have mentioned, those witnessed in Citizen Kane. This leaves me with the realization: I am an artist with no need to tell verbally explainable stories, but I am full of desire to emote, and to unravel, using that which is left to me, art made without words, an art that does not move through time but through space.
