It surprises me. Shown above is the twelfth state of "Painting-09·07·2012". Every one of my recently completed paintings has taken at least 12 states. "Painting-09·07·2012" will take at least thirteen because it will take at least one more state to complete it. You see it today on the edge of its finality (for instance, the head needs a left ear, → on viewer's right).
Yesterday's drawing was impossible to reproduce anywhere near its actual subtlety. The more I refine my drawings, the more I have an ability to refine my drawings, and the more their reproductions fall short of representing them well. This again points out the failings of our digital age of reproduction and art-making. Perhaps I could learn to draw on a digital tablet, like an iPad, and perhaps I could find a way to create similar digital nuances that I am able to create with a pencil. I do not know because I have not put years of effort into digital drawing, as I have with pencil and paper.
