The title of today's blog refers to the woman in the painting, not the woman in the drawing (who seems to be going...). The woman in the painting should not be there. She detracts from the profundity of the man. I will completely wipe her out today (literally, since the paint is very wet) and start over. Another woman may appear, or maybe a table with objects? What I can see happening is my emphasizing the contrast of the man's head with the background. The blue sliver at the bottom of painting has clued me into this idea. I think he is sitting in a different light than the background. We shall see.
Yesterday's drawing was sweet ― doing a good job of reproducing such a thing is impossible. This drawing radiates light, and the line and forms are strong and delicate. The shadow on the paper in the upper left hand corner detracts from the pure whiteness of the real paper. In the actual drawing one thing does bother me: it's the woman's left ankle bone which is shifted forward. Maybe I'll go back into it today, change that little detail, and try photographing it again.
