For "Pond", there are several major changes in this version (#10) from the image posted 09/03/2010. If you wish, you can go back and forth between versions of "Pond" to see the impact of these alterations. For me, the present image is reality: the composition, color (local and atmospheric), and forms are insistent, and driving me toward their collective conclusion.
The drawing of the day is strange. It surprises me too. In terms of themes the "near touch" of the two figures is recurrent in my work. This drawing took me an astonishingly long 4 hours to complete, and I am not comfortable with it. The decision to stop in its present state suggests my limitations, as I did not know where to go from here. This drawing said exactly what it needed to say. The dilemma, not being comfortable and not knowing how to make it better, told me this drawing is an exploration of an idea and not a work which stands alone. The image is precursor to more exploration of this theme, man and animal and the connection between both. In my past work, the animal is often the observer of human foibles, but not here. In this image they are equals.
