It did not feel right. Yet I continued. I put a lot of work into the painting "Sight & Sound". Today I'll scrape that work down to the canvas and try again. This is a battle for process. You can do it right, or you can do it wrong. It felt wrong.
I should have known when I made the drawing. Yesterday's drawing is all about surface, with composition a distant second, or third, or a concern somewhere outside altogether. You can not make a painting that way. It is OK to practice a single idiosyncrasy in a drawing, but dragging it, as a main concern, into a painting simply distracts from the overall objective of making a completely expressive work of art.
