The two drawings posted today make me feel competent in process. They came easily and their resonance is genuine. Also, I am surprised at the difficulty I had reproducing these for posting here. They photographed without difficulty, but much subtlety has been lost. In person these are extremely rich drawings in variation of value, form, and line texture. These qualities do not suitably translate in reproduction on the web. Such is the reason to view authentic works of art!
In terms of theme I approached a Saul Steinberg idea of cartoonish figures observing a living, breathing woman. This idea of two types of characters, one real and others obvious inventions of drawing, fascinates me. I will be exploring this more fully.
